Purpose of the position:
The peer educator (case officer) will conduct mobilization and case management of beneficiaries of the HIV Prevention program and become an integral part of the entry point to the HIV Prevention program in a Non-Clinical site and/or community that links the community into care. (This is a contract position renewable based on funding)
Minimum Requirements
Grade 12 / matric
1-year related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
HIV Counselling certificates
Certified to conduct finger prick testing
Ability to communicate in English and isiXhosa
Computer literate in MS office
Driver’s licence would be advantageous
Clear criminal record
Duties and Responsibilities
Conducts mapping to identify hots spots to conduct mobilization and identifies CBOs /youth ambassadors /CHWs that will support mobilizing AGYW
Peer educators will come from the communities in which they are working so will know where AGYW meet and youth structures
Peers will conduct mobilizing by using all the mobilization strategies trained on and ensure that they meet their daily mobilization targets and record in the mobilization register
Peer educators will enter all beneficiaries mobilized into the case management register
Peer educators will provide virtual and face to face support according to the needs of the AGYW
Referrals are based on the AGYW needs arising using the resource directory
Supports the team in assessing the needs of youth in relation to HIV prevention, linkage to care and adherence to treatment and implements effective case management strategies
Submits mobilization and case management tools weekly to peer coordinator, who verifies and validates and submits to linkage officer to capture on electronic case management register
Peer educators will get weekly feedback on case management status from peer coordinators
Lobbies and advocates for youth in relation to HIV, gender and related issues
Attends training and workshops as part of staff development
Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings and case management
Assist in implementation of support groups
Submits monthly reports to the supervisor
