The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) is excited to announce a recruitment drive for 200 Metro Police Trainees to join our Training and Innovation Division at the Police Training Academy. This is a fantastic opportunity for young, dedicated, and physically fit individuals from all races and genders who are passionate about serving the City of Tshwane and pursuing a career in policing. Applications are open for the 2025 Metro Policing Training Programme (COSA169-2025), with training commencing on 5 August 2025.

Who Can Apply?

We are looking for energetic, intelligent, and committed South African citizens residing in the City of Tshwane metropolitan area who meet the following requirements:

  • Educational Qualification: A Grade 12 certificate (documentary proof required).

  • Driver’s License: A valid manual transmission driver’s license and the ability to pass a departmental practical driving test.

  • Clean Record: No criminal record or pending criminal cases. Applicants must allow their fingerprints to be taken by TMPD (at their own cost).

  • Background Check: Applicants listed on the register for sexual or child offenders, or those dismissed for misconduct in government, will not be considered.

  • Citizenship and Residency: Must be a South African citizen and a resident of Tshwane (proof of residence and an affidavit required if the surname differs from the registered owner).

  • Age: Between 18 and 35 years old.

  • Health and Fitness: Medically fit for strenuous exercise (a medical certificate is required) and able to pass a physical fitness evaluation.

  • Psychometric Assessment: Willingness to undergo and pass a psychometric assessment.

  • Language Proficiency: Proficient in English and able to pass an English assessment.

  • Firearm Competency: Not declared incompetent to possess a firearm under Sections 102, 103, or 104 of the Firearms Control Act, 2000 (Act 60 of 2000).

  • Appearance: No visible tattoos when wearing any TMPD uniform.

  • Code of Conduct: Willingness to sign the TMPD Code of Conduct.

Key Responsibilities

Successful trainees will serve as functional Metro Police Officers, tasked with:

  • Enforcing the National Road Traffic Act, 1996 (Act 93 of 1996) through traffic policing.

  • Upholding municipal by-laws and regulations.

  • Contributing to crime prevention efforts in the City of Tshwane.
