Learner Pharmacist Assistant Programme 2026 (EPWP) – 65 Posts Available
The Department of Health & Wellness is inviting unemployed youth to apply for the Learner Pharmacist’s Assistant Programme 2026. This opportunity forms part of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) and is designed to provide both training and workplace experience in the healthcare sector.
This programme is ideal for young people who want to build a career in pharmacy and healthcare services.
Programme Overview
Successful applicants will be appointed as Learner Pharmacist Assistants for an initial 12-month contract to complete the Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification.
Based on performance, candidates may be offered an additional 12-month contract to complete the Post-Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification.
Training will be provided by an accredited provider registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).

Stipend
💰 R5,345.75 per month
Minimum Requirements
To qualify, applicants must:

Be between 18 – 35 years old

Have a National Senior Certificate (Matric) with:

Mathematics
-
Physical Sciences and/or Life Sciences
-

OR an equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification
-
Clearly indicate subject results in the CV
⚠ Note: Mathematics Literacy will NOT be accepted.
Programme Duties
Participants will:

Assist pharmacists in healthcare facilities
-
Support medicine management services
-
Help deliver pharmaceutical services to patients

Work under supervision in clinics and hospitals

Gain practical healthcare experience

Candidates may be required to complete assessments and competency tests

Background checks will be conducted (criminal record, qualifications, etc.)

Shortlisted candidates must bring certified documents (not older than 6 months)
