What is the BPDLP?
The Basic Police Development Learning Programme (BPDLP) is a 24-month training programme for entry-level police trainees. It consists of:

An academy training phase (approximately 10–12 months) at a designated SAPS academy. A field police development phase (about 12 months) where trainees work at a designated police station.After successful completion trainees may be considered for appointment as SAPS Constables.
✅ Who Can Apply? (General Requirements)
To apply for the BPDLP, you must meet the following key criteria:

Be a South African citizen and provide documentary proof.

Be at least 18 years old and not older than 35 years at the closing date (for some adverts).

Have a Grade 12 certificate (or equivalent) — proof must be furnished.

Be physically, medically and mentally fit — you’ll undergo a medical examination, psychometric assessment, fitness test and security vetting.

Be proficient in at least two official languages, one of which must be English.

Be willing to serve anywhere in the Republic of South Africa and wear a uniform, take an oath of office.

Not have any visible tattoos when wearing uniform (in certain adverts) and no previous criminal convictions or pending cases.

Locate the BPDLP Vacancy Advertisement
Find the specific “Entry Level Police Trainee: BPDLP 2026” (or equivalent) vacancy. Each advert will have a reference number. For example: “Post title: Police Trainee – Reference: TRAINEE2025/2026”. -
Complete the Application Form
Fill in the application form accurately, upload required documents:-
