Minimum Requirements

To qualify, you must meet the following essential criteria:

  • Matric/Grade 12 qualification

  • Willingness and ability to work retail hours, including flexi-hours

  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Key Responsibilities

As a learner, you’ll gain practical skills in the following areas:

Stock Control

  • Ensure products on shelves are within sell-by dates.

  • Maintain a full range of products at all times.

  • Participate in stock takes when requested.

  • Keep the storeroom organized, neat, and tidy.

  • Report low stock levels, out-of-stock items, damaged, or expired stock to management.

  • Facilitate regular stock rotation and adhere to Dis-Chem’s stock control procedures.

  • Flatten boxes after unpacking and move them to the designated area.

  • Restock merchandise to maximize sales.

Merchandising

  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and attractive product displays in the store and window areas.

  • Create engaging displays through makeovers, cosmetic demonstrations, or spray promotions.

  • Ensure all goods are correctly priced and labeled.

  • Work toward achieving sales targets for various vendors and brands in the Cosmetics Department.

  • Keep displays fully stocked and facing forward.

  • Assist with loading and off-loading stock when needed.

  • Report price discrepancies to management.

Customer Service

  • Provide friendly, helpful, and courteous assistance to all customers.

  • Process payments at the Cosmetics Department Point of Sale (POS).

  • Offer advice without pressuring customers to switch brands.

  • Address and resolve customer stock queries efficiently.

Competencies

To succeed in this learnership, you’ll need:

  • Knowledge of promotions, personal selling, sales targets, and customer liaison.

  • Strong English reading, writing, and speaking skills.

  • Effective oral communication, listening, and interpersonal skills.

  • Self-management and computer skills.

  • Trustworthiness, honesty, and basic financial skills.

  • The ability to understand and meet customer needs.

Special Conditions of Employment

  • Must be a South African citizen.

  • Clear criminal and credit record (verified via MIE).

  • Willingness to work flexible retail hours.
