The Western Cape Mobility Department is inviting applications for the Full-Time Study Bursary: Student Cadet Traffic Officer programme for 2026. This is a great opportunity for young people who want to build a career in law enforcement, road safety, and traffic policing.

Training Information

This is a 12-month training course leading to a:

Further Education and Training Certificate: Road Traffic Law Enforcement

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Grade 12 / Senior Certificate

  • Valid Code B manual driver’s license

  • Be physically fit

  • No criminal record

  • Be younger than 35 years old

  • Good communication skills

  • Ability to work shifts when needed

  • Be fluent in the local language of the area


Important Conditions

Applicants may be disqualified if they have:

  • Visible tattoos

  • Body piercings (except one ear piercing for females)

  • Criminal record

  • Failed medical or drug tests

Shortlisted candidates must complete:

  • Medical assessment

  • Psychological assessment

  • Drug screening

  • Fitness test

  • Driving test

  • Written assessment

  • Interview

  • SAPS criminal clearance


Main Duties After Training

Traffic students will be trained to:

  • Enforce road traffic laws

  • Promote public safety

  • Prevent road crime

  • Control traffic operations

  • Perform administrative duties

  • Work in a 24/7 shift system when required


Skills Needed

Candidates should have:

  • Good written and verbal communication

  • Public relations skills

  • Confidence and assertiveness

  • Ability to work under pressure

  • Teamwork and independence
